Feeling better after two days of rest and FF9. I skipped work today so I could get my sleeping patterns back to normal and toke up on the asprin; aches set in a day after the fact, not the same day. No writing done, for those of you waiting and twitching and wanting more, but I had a relaxing weekend other than the horfing and that’s all that matters to me.
Updated after wrestling. I know not a lot of you are WWF fans, but for those who are… the HELL was that? “I know! In order to best represent WCW and get the fans excited about our new co-promotion, let’s put a great young star like Booker out there… with the no-selling, no-talent twit Buff Bagwell for 2 minutes of weak offense that makes Booker look like a pussy and 2 minutes of chinlock rest holds that bore the audience to tears! Then Austin can run in and kick them in the head and we’ll show Vince McMahon without his pants on.”
And it was so exciting until then, too. Proof a bad finish can just totally kill a show, and unfortunately, kill any enthusiasm which could have been built for WCW. *sigh*
Okay, wake up, I’m about to talk about my writing.
Getting off on the right foot is absolutely critical. If Part One of your story doesn’t grab the reader, pique their curiosity, hype what’s to come and close on a bang, you are dead in the water. Chapter 7 could be great but if Chapter 1 sucked balls, you’re going to lose them before they get there. The WCW invasion has been weak so far, but tonight was the official first shot, and they missed like a Stormtrooper firing at Luke Skywalker.
Unreal Estate is facing a similar problem. That’s partly why I posted the teaser; toss out a grenade, detonate some weird stuff in your face, use the ringer ‘Blue Sky of Death’ and get you interested before I carry on. But the real boom has to come when UE01 is done. If the first episode flops, I’m toast. I’m stuck on my outline right now when Mallory’s talking to his dad, and I won’t write until I get that fixed (which I will). It has to be smooth. it has to WORK. Timing is critical and first impressions are very important.
So, word to the wise. You get one chance in this world where there’s a glut of entertainment looking for attention. Take the time you need to do it right the first time or you are fuxx0red.
