I feel the urge to update, since it’s been multiple days since my last update. But, there’s not a whole lot to update on.
This weekend was (mostly) filled with Social Activity. Friday we saw Harry Potter: Das Movien, which I’ve mentioned. Lee Jordan got the shaft; his commentary was reaching Michael Cole levels of banality. We never saw Cho-chan since they only had a Quidditch match against Slytherin. Ginny got four seconds of air time. Why oh why must all my favorite characters be so poorly used?
Saturday I had to do some errands / shopping / things / and got a haircut. Got some relaxation time in, too, near the end.
Sunday was WWF Vengance, one of the most solid and consistently entertaining PPVs they’ve done all year. Nothing was really stand-out but in the end, we felt like it was worth 30 bucks. Raw the next night was pretty unimpressive, though.
The eBay Dreamcast Joystick is a bust. I tested it yesterday. It’s stiff, slow to respond, has crappy buttons and is unfit for human use. Damn.
Working with Zach and Greyson to formulate up the next Ultra episode. There’s a bit of a philosophical sticking point about the how, why and who of the tournament’s background — not sure how that’ll go. It’s part of the whole humanist philosophical meaning behind Mary and the godhead which I’ve been trying to shove through the works for a year now (one of the reasons I’m ending Ultra, too). I’m not really stressin’ it, though, because the main fun to be had is in the hawt fighting action and drama and comedy that comes from these great characters — and the next Ultra has that in spades. I think my estimated 3-day extension might not be enough for the ep to get out the door, though… no big deal; at this point I want quality, not quantity, and folks can cope with more extensions. It’s coo’, yo. I’m really looking forward to reading this one.
Today I finally get some quiet time to myself. I’m debating if I’ll RP (since I really haven’t in about five days except for a brief bit… but I’d need folks to be around who I like to play with)… or write.
I’m trying to figure out what about UE isn’t totally appealing to me, and oddly enough, it may be the generally upbeat and comic nature of it. I was recalling the harsh reality of Sailor Nothing and really grooving on it when I realized that I wanted more drama and psychological terror in my work, which doesn’t really fit UE… yet. I may adapt things a bit so we get a Dramedy Mix, like the Slayers series — the serious mixed with the funny. Episode 1, aside from Mallory’s frustrations and ambitions, was largely comedy. Episode 2 has a dark underpinning but it’s not emphasized very much — I might bring it more to the forefront. I don’t want UE to be a darkfic or a wacky hijinx romp. I want something inbetween.
The hurdle is to just get back to work on it, but I won’t work on it until it FEELS right. Maybe with some changes, I can get the feeling again. Nothing is unworkable (except Slayers Starboard, and first person to ask when I continue that gets my fist up their ass.)
