Okay, you may remember way back when I was saying that every bachelor pad needs at least two out of three of the following.
A) A tabletop game (foosball, air hockey, or in a pinch ping pong)
B) A pinball machine
C) An arcade game
I have the Foosball. (And handily enough, it can convert to a glide hockey table and a ping pong table. Yay!) I’m passing up the pinball since it looks hella expensive and hard to maintain. And I said I was doing a Dreamcast-based arcade cabinet.
Well, in lieu of the last post, I just dropped $1100 bucks on a new computer to make that bad boy a full fledged MAME cabinet.
Sometimes, it’s good to be Chad.
In addition to having 100 games including every King of Fighters and Capcom Vs. game and lots of cooperative brawlers like TMNT, Simpsons and Aliens vs. Predator and many classics and Puzzle Fighter and so on and so forth, it’s going to have Dance Dance Revolution, a Pinball emulator, and real arcade joystick controls. And a trackball, for your Centipede and Missile Command enjoyment. Jenny and Dad are collaborating on building the cabinet and I’ve managed to turn this fiasco into a massive family bonding experience, to boot.
My only regret is that if I throw a party to celebrate the final product, only two people can play at once. C’est la vie.
So, this weekend, I’ve been downloading ROMs (and compiling a list for previously mentioned friend to grab for me), setting up a nice joystick-friendly frontend program, learning about filesharing, and all sorts of other things in preparation for Tuesday. That’s when I get the PC itself, and near the end of the week I’ll have the joysticks. Cabinet’s the third step. I’ll make sure I take photos and stuff so I can make you all loathe and despise me for flaunting my 80’s-style-massive-excess-vanity-purchase.
In other news: RP is still kickin’ quite nicely, no writing yet, exercises not quite together, and a big hello to Lee Thompson who got a DeadJournal and thus I can’t put him in my friends list, curses. Still, a good friend indeed.
