And since I know you just can’t get enough of my personal life, you stalker creeps, here’s How to Build a MAME Arcade Cabinet (The Half Baked Way), my ongoing saga/anecdote of the MAME project. It’s 3/5ths complete, and I wrote it more for entertainment value than informative value, so enjoy…
Leaving out answers I just put in to throw you off and have no reasoning behind, here’s an explanation of the answers to my quiz…
1. I’ve been diagnosed with
Diastrophic Dwarfism: 5pts. Correct. It’s a short-stature.. condition? Disorder? Hell if I know.
Minor Bipolar Disorder: 2pts. Well, I’ve taken some online tests that show I MIGHT have this. I tend to be either manically cheerful or needlessly angsty and self abusive…
Toxic Shock Syndrome: -2pts. Ah, fiddling with the ‘obviously wrong’ answer functionality, are we?
2. I’ve never lived in a
Split-level Home: 2pts. I was habitating in one while getting physical therapy after a surgery way back when I was a kid. Sorta counts.
Small Apartment: 0pts. Parents lived in one when I was a wee baby.
Basement: -2pts. Hello? I’m living in my parent’s basement now. I’ve gone on and on about how cool my bachelor pad is.
Third Floor Walkup: 5pts. Me, going up stairs? See question #1. Mobility is not my bag.
Two-floor Home: 0pts. My previous house was your basic two floor suburban lair of evil.

Money: 0pts. Nah, I’m okay with money. I have enough.
Time: 5pts. Bingo! I’ve been ranting a lot lately about this in my journal.
Sex: 2pts. I ain’t gettin’ any! Not that I’ve actively sought it out, but…

4. My favorite book is
Douglas Adams, The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy: 1pt. Too obvious and too popular.

Rugged, macho martial artists with good hearts: -1pts. Booooooring.
Cheerful and kind, but a bit shy girls: 4pts. Seriously! Shoujo fun is really cool too, and playing someone who’s shy is a challenge.
Psychologically screwed up sexual deviants: 2pts. Well, yeah. I like playing people who are not quite right emotionally.
6. My favorite classic arcade game is
Q*Bert: 2pts. !#@%^
Pac-Man: -1pts. Eh, I don’t like games where everything is faster than you and you only win by memorizing a pattern.
Elevator Action: 4pts. Oooh, this is fun. Repetitive, but you have to think fast and plan how you deal with the enemy. More versatile than a basic pattern mazer.
7. The written work I’m most proud of is
Ranma 1/2: March of the Pigs: -1pts. It’s a bit embarassing now…
Ranma 1/2: The Ends: 2pts. Every author has a work they’re proud of but nobody else cared for. This is it.
Slayers Trilogy: 0pts. Don’t get me wrong, it’s good, but I’ve done better stuff. And the way fans fawn all over it and ignore my other work can be irritating…
Slayers Demiurge: 1pts. I like this one. I did some good twisting of the mythos and how we deal with fandom.
Sailor Nothing: 5pts. Hands down. I finally got the in depth psychology and dark themes I wanted, with the most skill I have available so far.
8. One of my biggest goals in life is to
Become a pro musician: 0pts. Nah, I’m just hobbying now and then.
Publish a novel: 2pts. It’d be nice, but I’m okay with self-publish for now.

Find love: 5pts. Seriously! C’mon, who doesn’t want to? Of these five things, this is most important.
Become a CEO: -2pts. I hate being the leader or administrator. It’s too damn stressful.
9. The song I listen to whenever a phase of my life ends or changes is
Alice in Chains, Over Now: 5pts. Admittedly nobody knew this before the poll, but… even if the lyrics aren’t totally appropos, it feels good to listen to it after a school semester / after moving to a new house / anything else.
They Might Be Giants, Everything Right is Wrong Again: 0pts. Good song, but I threw it in to throw you off if you’ve read Sailor Nothing. :)
The Doors, The End: 2pts. Has a certain resonance with Apocalypse Now that I like.
N’Sync, Bye Bye Bye: -4pts. If you seriously believed this was correct, I turn my back on you and shun your existence.
Tori Amos, Hey Jupiter: 0pts. But I do like her work.
10. When I changed majors from Computer Science in college, I changed to
Sociology: 1pt. The department was asking me to join, since I’d taken a few classes there and found them very interesting. But I declined.
Programming and Networking: -1pts. Ugh, no. I changed to AVOID hardcore programming. I just don’t get off on writing complicated C++.
Technical Writing: 0pts. Nope.
Computers & Interactive Media: 4pts. Sort of a mixture of art, english, computer science, and even some cultural studies. And it landed me a job, so it worked.
American Studies: 2pts. Technically a lot of my C&IM major involved American Studies, a bizarre little department focusing on American culture. Fun stuff.
11. My nickname before I took on the Twoflower moniker was
Link the Lord: 0pts. No, but a good friend from my BBSing days.
Ookie Panookie: 1pts. No, but a bonus point for naming a character from my ANCIENT DOS-based Wing Commander-esque games that spawned FWLS.

12. The reason I changed to Twoflower was
Made a good author name to hide behind while posting stories illegally through my sister’s internet account: 4pts. True, dat.
I wanted it to represent the free thinking, free love ideals of the 60’s which I believed in: -2pts. Erm, no.
I loved the story and had been using Twoflower as a character on Furrymuck for a year: 2pts. True. Not the reason I used it, but true.
All variations on my previous nickname were already taken when I got my University of Maryland account: 4pts. Random, RQH, and any 8-letter variation that made sense was already grabbed.
13. My favorite snack food is
Chex Mix: 1pt. Not since they added ‘bagel bits’ and took away the peanuts. I eat a clone-snack named Doo Dads now which is the same formula as OLD SCHOOL Chex Mix.
Sourdough Pretzels: -1pts. Well, when nothing else is available, otherwise ick. Dry.
Cool Ranch Doritos: 5pts. DAMN RIGHT!
14. I really hate feeling like
I’m on drugs: 3pts. Absolutely. If you’ve had dozens of surgeries, you’d hate being sedated and messed up in the head by medicenes too.
Chad: 4pts. You bet, I posted a few LJ entries about feeling like the white guy with the sweater around his neck and the red sports car while my friends were trying to scrape up spare change to buy cold beans.
There are better writers than me: 0pts. I got over that after finishing the entire run of The Sandman by Neil Gaiman. You just have to accept that there is always someone better and your job is to be the best YOU can be.
15. All told, I’ve had
enough booze to float a Spanish Galleon: -3pts. See question 14. No. Alcohol messes with your head like a drug, forget it.
not a single drop of alcohol: 5pts. See?
no sex: 2pts. …erm, unrelated, but yes.
16. If there’s one thing I hate, it’s going to bed knowing that
I wasn’t productive that day: 5pts. My biggest complaint. I have a burning need to get something DONE that day, something that has a tangible/virtual end result that others can see. If I just play games or sit around all day I don’t feel like I’ve accomplished anything.
I didn’t get my exercises done: 3pts. Ugh. It’s like I’ve conditioned myself to put them off until it’s too late. I HAVE to break that.
I have to wake up in the morning: 1pt. Well, on a general angst level, sometimes, okay.
I still live in my parent’s basement: -2pts. No way. After going on about how awesome my bachelor pad is? I’m happy as a clam down here.
17. My favorite genre of music is
Hard Rock: 2pts. True, I like it. The more energizing, the more epic in feel, the better. Faith No More’s “Epic” in fact is a good example of things I like in rock.
Multigenre: 3pts. The true answer is that I like a whole lot of genres, from soft to hard, across cultures. My playlists are eclectic and I rarely have one clear winner.
Comedy: 1pt. Yeah, that too. Weird Al, Tenacious D, parody rap songs like MC Hawking, etc.
Techno: 2pts. And this too. Orbital, Lo-Fi All Stars, Crystal Method. I particularly like crossgenre techno, like when you put in electric guitars or hip-hop scratching.
Pop: -2pts. If Britney Spears and N’Sync were to drop dead of brain cancer, I would not shed a tear.
18. Whenever possible, I prefer to sleep from
12am-7am: -2pts. Nooo, that’s my CURRENT weekday workday schedule. And I loathe it.
4pm-12am: 2pts. I actually slept this schedule during final exam week in college, and it worked GREAT; I could wake up, relax, play some games, study, go take my final exam, go to bed. No problems studying the night before and forgetting it all on waking up!
4am-12pm: 4pts. My weekend/vacation schedule. Stay up late, wake up late. Excellent for MUing. Bliss.
19. When I was a kid, I used to sleep with a
Stuffed Panda: 2pts And it’d play ‘You are my teddy bear’. But it was more sitting near my bed than in it.
Seasame Street’s Bert Doll: 5pts. Mom handed it to me when I was sitting in my stroller in Toys R Us, and I refused to let go. She couldn’t leave the store until we bought it. Bert accompanied me through a lot of surgeries… even into my teens I’d keep him around since I’d gotten used to using him as a small prop-up pillow. Nowadays I use a regular rectangular pillow of the same general dimensions.
Jem Doll: -2pts. I could not handle Jem. Probably for the same reasons I cannot handle Britney Spears.
20. Finally, no matter where you go,
always wear clean underwear.: -1pts. C’mon, what fun is that?
never forget your friends.: 0pts. Well, try not to, yes. But that’s not what my old elementary school saying was. It was…
there you are.: 5pts. If I ever had a catch phrase, this would be it. I don’t use it as much nowadays, but I still appreciate the zenlike quality of it. It’s very reassuring.
always know that I hate you and that your continued existence is a festering boil on the ass of loathing.: 2pts. Yes, but that’s besides the point. :)
Thanks for taking my quiz! Wai!
