Three points in today’s update:
1. I’m considering buying an X-Box.
“WHAT?” “Are you nuts?” “You’re paying the Enemy!” “Microsoft is evil!” “It’s going to be crushed in the marketplace by Nintendo!” “You suck.” “Gamecube r0xx0rz!” “You’re contributing to the fall of western civilization!”
My defense? “Jet Set Radio Future.” Thank you. I want this game. I loved the original and this one looks even better. And since I have NO idea if it’ll ever be ported to PS2, this is the only way to play it.
Of course, a wise man named after a city ruled by a mouse once told me, “Never buy a console unless it has three games you really want to play and can’t play anywhere else.” In this case, I’m going to nominate JSRF, Dead or Alive 3, and Wreckless. Money is not an issue; I won’t give exact figures but let’s just say I have enough cash in the bank to buy an X-Box and three games without breaking a sweat. Some days, it’s good to be Chad.
But the problem is this… I looked at the X-Box release schedule, and there’s nothing upcoming that I have any interest in. It’s mostly sports games or weak 3rd party offerings. Does that mean I’m deliberately considering buying a dead system that will offer nothing further? But keep in mind that there wasn’t much of interest to me on the PS2 aside from Smackdown 3, Cap vs. SNK 2, and Tony Hawk 3. I still managed to find some other good games to go with them that I hadn’t thought of before (MTV Music Gen 2, FreQuency, Guilty Gear X, etc.)
Your thoughts? and if you use any of the quoted objections I listed above, I will be cheerfully ignoring you. And no, I don’t wanna buy a game cube; I don’t care for cute and fuzzy mascot games, and their controllers stink for my widdle hands, much like the ‘designed by the criminally insane’ N64 ergonomic controllers.
I was raised in the liberal suburbs and in the 90’s, which means I recycle, I don’t discriminate based on race and I see ‘alternative lifestyles’ as being every bit as normal as non-alternative ones. That’s just the atmosphere I was raised in, so it’s as natural as breathing to me. But this article… well, the idea of blatantly and viciously discriminating like this fits like a square peg to my round hole; it just doesn’t make sense at all. And I hope that Hallmark catches an incredible amount of bad press for it, too.
3. Weekend fun is coming. Usually I go to the Bijoux Saxon to watch flicks, but jssaxon (The Man) is currently studying like mad for an upcoming opera performance. I wish you luck, mon. That leaves this weekend free, so we have devised a scheme — an “All Shoujo and Classics Anime Day” for the portion of our local audience who would be keen on such things. Currently slated: Love Hina, the AMG movie, Bubblegum Crisis, some Robotech, and if we can find the tapes we’ll be showing Riding Bean. Whee!
ObUE: Planning on writing more this weekend. Be prepared.
