Title is condensed version of the following:
King of the Ring… oh, god. I went in expecting an uneven show, and it underperformed my expectations. No match raised above the level of ‘decent’ and many, notably that lethargic undisputed title match, sank below the level of acceptability. My friends hated it and I feel kind of disappointed — we got to hang out and eat greasy food and play video games, but when the show is THAT sour, it kinda dampens the mood. Le sigh.
It’s so frustrating, you know? You really WANT the WWE to turn it around and put on good shows, but each glimmer of hope they throw at you gets stomped into a fine paste by the rest of the crap. I’d stop watching, but the weekly shows are social events — times when I get to meet my pals. And that’s worth sitting through Undertaker vs. Triple H. I think.
But in positive news, I’ve explored Neverwinter Nights s’more. I still have that fear of ‘playing the wrong way’ and being forced to completely restart — remember from my previous Final Fantasy rants? I’m not that great at video games, and I don’t like to suffer frustrating setbacks. But…
The toolkit ROCKS. Just putting together a little three-area dungeon crawl is proving to be the most fun I’ve had in days! The maps lay themselves out organically; you sort of ‘carve’ paths through them, and they mold the walls and floors and random natural details so that it looks like one seamless piece. No mindless tile-slapping here, folks! No square corners to speak of! Once I learn the scripting engine, I think I can really do some nice stuff; I’ve already designed a chat tree for a penguin and created a Goblin porno magazine and set up a bunch of custom variant monsters in a secret encounter area (Death Chickens). It’s awesome.
My first project, because I like to think big, is to take the dungeon crawl I made and expand it to an entire mini-world. A town with an inn and shops, a crypt to explore, some stuff like that. I’ve always wanted to do the Shenmue thing, and being able to craft my own fantasy-parody world is too cool to pass up. And with infinite expansion potential, I can make it as small or as large as I want — and add more to it later if I feel like it! Woohoo!
My old ‘Penultima’ RPG project rides again.
I’m going to start brainstorming ideas while at work, wasting your tax dollars needlessly. (Don’t worry, I plan to get my monday workload done as well; it’s just that both my bosses are out of town and it’s a good opportunity.) This project may cause UE delays, but right now I care more about my Happiness than my Responsibility. I’ve had a dreary few weeks as you know and any pick-me-up I see I’m gonna pounce on.
Plus, I’ll publicize details about the server location and uptimes once I get a playtesting copy going, so any fans of my writing will have a new way to read that writing when they bump into my NPCs. Muwahaha. I’m already planning to port over the Unholy Cult of Zoamel Gustav… but anyway.
Finally, if while playing NWN online you see a kindly 62 year old lady with her hair in a bun calling people ‘sonny’ and cleaving open the bodies of her enemies with a gigantic doubleheaded axe, that’s me. Grandma Skullcracker, at your service. ^_^ Oohohohohohoo.
