I recently did an interview with Neverwinter Vault about the Penultima series, which you can read here. Some good tidbits on game (and fiction) development processes.
I also talk about the future of the series; the Penultima fanbase is just as ravenous as the UE fanbase, and both want moremoremore. So, I’ve made an Official-Type Decision on the matter, which is hopefully also a Final-Type Decision.
I MUST learn how to do two concurrent projects. It’s a flaw I have that I can’t get myself to focus on two things at once, even in a simple ‘do one of this, then one of that’ capacity. Therefore, once I finish Penultima (I’m well over halfway done, I don’t anticipate this taking more than another month or two at worst) I’m going to do UE10. Then another module. Then UE11. Then a module. Then…
Basically, I’m going to try the most basic form of multitasking that Microsoft has been doing since Win 3.11 — choppy timeshare. Now, this means that the breakneck pace I managed in the past isn’t happening anymore, since there’ll be gaps of time between finished chunks. (I really should learn to work slower, anyway; as my friends can attest to, I haven’t been able to keep up socially with them because I spend all my time hacking modules or writing stories…)
So fans of UE, fret not, I certainly haven’t forgotten you and UE will be completed. There are no roadblocks I’m stumbling over; UE10 is mapped and ready to roll whenever I get back to it. Fans of Penultima, fret not, I understand you want more than the officially planned five modules. With a little patience, you’ll get more.
But god help me if I decide to add project #3. @_@
In minor news: WWE Raw last night was pretty sweet and a step in the right direction. Darth Bischoff was a big hit with my friends since he was so CHEERFULLY EVIL, and kept hitting the Buddy Jesus pose.
I’ll be at Otakon this weekend, cruising around on my three wheeler scooter and wearing either a purple t-shirt or my Kaientai “EVIL” shirt. Feel free to say hello and/or ask me any questions you might have, unless I’m moving at high speed to get to an event on time, in which case I will simply run you down like the dog you are.
