Quoth JR: “I’m trying to call a wrestling match and you’re going on about necrophilia!”
I’m beginning to think it may be time to rewire my VCR so it accepts a direct cable signal. Might be kinda hard the way my TV, cable box and VCR are rigged… but the upshot would be being able to VIDEOTAPE Raw and Smackdown so I can fast forward through the garbage. Although I’m beginning to wonder if I should even bother with that.
Well, in positive news, I’m brushing up the ‘ol resume at last. Trying to emphasize Penultima and my MUCK game development experience, and the awards won on the job. I may have an interested party, but I won’t get my hopes up this time — just cast it out there and see what bites, if anything. I can’t believe I worried myself sick that night with my brain projecting forward to What My Life In Canada Will Be Like. Bleah. I think if it hadn’t blindsided me at 11:30pm I might’ve handled that little episode a bit better.
Beyond that… not much going on. Back into the groove at work, finished up some loose ends I had left, taking on new jobs as they come. I’ve entered into the psychological mindset of “Killing Time” before SD4 comes out. It’s funny, but my mind tends to enter a null state whenever it’s waiting for something that it feels will change my life / fun factor / etc… it’s like it doesn’t really do anything grand, going into rest mode to prepare. Sort of a zen trance, like sitting in the car waiting for a six hour ride time to pass.
I hope I can bust out of it now and then to work Penultima. I have a game plan for PR3. It’s not as nonlinear as PR2, but maybe I can adjust it to add more ‘steps’ in the process of getting from start to finish. Subquests, side areas, etc. And this is gonna be the big ‘lurve’ episode, your last chance to earn brownie points with Talya and Zachary, since PR4 and 5 will have too much going down (and no special subquests for either of them, that’s more a Sally and Whisper episode). If you’re not into the romance, bring Grandma for access to an extra specially evil hack and slash brawling good time.
I was talking to a friend about the whole ‘romance subplot’, and I think I’ve bungled. Zachary’s is nice and shojouey (a love triangle, even if it doesn’t get really explored until PR3 and the end) but Talya? No. Talya’s more like Lorelei. A wild outspoken spirit who’s a sexy good time rather than a romantically adorable good time. She does have a soft side, which you see when you play with her in PR2 (and if you do that, you see MORE of it in PR3) but it’s not the same. I should’ve included a more cute, shy henchman to handle the other style of romantic subplot, but… eh. I can only go so far with this due to technical limitations and the fact that you’re supposed to be SAVING THE WORLD FROM EVIL, not GOING ON DATES. The two have different, somewhat contradictory pressures.
Okay, enough ranting. Bedtime.
