The manic cheer I’ve been experiencing all week continues! Tonight I get Tony Hawk 4, and possibly the P4 I won in the 100-Nights competition… Maximus got his, so mine should be around soon. It comes with WinXP pre-installed, apparently, so the copy I bought is useless — unless I decide to uninstall the preinstall and reinstall. …which isn’t as stupid as it sounds, since odds are it has XP Home, and I bought XP Pro. I don’t need all those Microsoft-overlorded consumer friendly services, thank you. Any XPerts out there agree, or am I off my rocker about wanting to swap OSes?
(And no, I’m not running Linux on it. This is gonna be my GAMING rig. I do hope to get a Linux box going eventually, though.)
Work also continues on EE, and man… this is feeling GOOD. I love the atmosphere of the nightmare inn, with tons of colored screwy lighting and the ambient music. I wish I could script it out ahead of time so my voice talent can do all the lines in one run, but I just don’t work like that — my best stuff evolves out of constructing the game linearly and asking “Well, what can I do with this next bit?”. I whipped up a very nice puzzle involving colored paint last night, for instance, which I hadn’t originally thought of. I’m guessing this game will be ‘combat lite’… right now there are only like six ‘encounters’ in the game. They’re decently difficult ones for the level range I’ve picked, not pushovers, but they’re still discrete and not as much of a constant swarm as the Penultima games dump on you.
Voice auditions coming in are getting better and better. I have a solid lock on all the characters except Michael now — although I still welcome auddies up to Friday, since hey, I could get an even MORE solid lock on newly arriving material! I’m kind of surprised few folks are auding for Michael, given he’s a hybrid Xelloss/Obiwan type, which is very popular in anime…
Anyway, I really feel this is gonna be my strongest mod to date, even aside from the bells and whistles. It MEANS more. Of course, since I’m investing so much emotion into making it, that’s gonna make it all the more painful when I read the eventual feedback of “This was weak and overhyped and unimpressive” some folks will leave. (It’s hard to avoid pangs of upset-ness over those. If it’s just ‘J00 SUXX0R’ that’s easy to ignore, but the ones who say ‘Well, it’s just not that good’ are more legitimately disappointing.)
…okay, back bad emotion! Back! I am on a roll and will not be stopping anytime soon! Tonight I relax, DBZ, shower, and back to the toolkit. PRODUCE!
