NOT WORKING: The P4. Fiddled and fiddled and no go. Josh will be helping me fix it tonight, but if it’s not a simple software problem, either I gotta get a CD cleaning kit (which may or may not be the problem) or just replace the DVD-ROM. Which means potentially another day or two days before I can do the swap — more if I decide to install software on it (like, say, a FIREWALL?) before doing the swap. Bleah.
WORKING: EE. I have basically all the areas constructed and all monsters designed. All that’s left are final monster tweaks, some more set decoration, Grace’s last dialogue, the boss fight, and the epilogue. …and testing.
Testing’s gonna be interesting considering the size of this thing, and that I don’t think I wanna release the speech pack until it’s final-version… my plan right now is to:
* Release a ‘Testing Version’ on NWVault which has no music and no speech. Just the hak and the mod. It should be about 3 megs.
* When that’s done, release TWO versions — one with speech and music (roughly 25 megs), and one with nothing (like the testing version, 3 megs). I was originally gonna do an add-on pack but since I need to replace the hakpak to do a speech version, it’s not a lot of savings and a lot of confusion for folks trying to upgrade. The trick is that I’ll say on the no-speech version “Please do NOT leave ratings or comments on this version — go here (speech version) instead.” Thus the speech version is the ‘official’ version and the nonspeech is the ‘pansy ass stripped down lame’ version. ^_^
The final hurdle and possibly the most important one, though is… will NWN players be able to tolerate / accept a story which is basically about the psychological and physical torture of little kids? It’s not as SPECIFICALLY dark as Sailor Nothing, but the theme is still present, particularly in Grace’s area of the game. It’ll be marked ‘Mature’, but we’ll see. I recall the big stink about someone who wrote an adult darkfic for their character on EverQuest… granted, there’s no sex in EE, and that seems to always be the straw that breaks the American camel’s back, but we’ll see.
NOT WORKING: Wrestling. I’m going to give Raw a chance tonight, mostly ’cause Josh has to drop by anyway to work on the computer, second-mostly because the ratings have tanked and hopefully Vince McMahon has come out of his dirty old man’s senile stupor. We’ll see.
WORKING: Wrestling. Next week is WWE Smackdown for PS2’s release, and you can expect me to vanish into thin air for a few days after that. (Whereas Tony Hawk 4 was only a minor hit on productivity; I’m not finding it as addictive as 3. Maybe because the levels are a little visually confusing and dense.) Smackdown’s feature set and secrets list and roster and CAW features and so on and so forth are 90% of everything I’ve ever wanted in a game. Woohoo!
So, in short… eh, good with the bad. And that’s your moral of the day!
