I have some GOOD NEWS for a change to report.
I got around the stumbling block in PR3. The problem was in the villain’s motivation; I had trouble believing he/she would do the series of dastardly acts that transpire in PR3 given the original motivation I had in store. With a bit of a tweak, a blatant lift from The Matrix and some other nips and tucks the plot is back on track and I feel comfortable continuing.
Someone in a previous posting asked if UE would be continued. Here’s my plan: I have to finish Penultima ReRolled. It’s been on my back for many moons now and the game community is less forgiving of delay than the writing-fan community. So I want to finish that, hopefully ASAP, then I’m gonna either put NWN development on hold or just stick to one-shot modules I can fiddle with in my spare time without the gigantic committment a CAMPAIGN demands of me.
Once all that is done, UE gets moving. It has a similar problem — a tiny flaw which needs correcting before I can proceed. But I’m confident I can do so, and I have the rest of the story mapped out pretty nicely, so we’re in good shape.
Keep in mind that this isn’t my job, and I have a lot of competing interests. I can only develop as fast and as frequently as I can manage. And I’m learning (very, very, very slowly) to accept that I’m not Superman here and I can’t constantly be saving the day with brand new creative end product.
I feel a bit more confident today. I swear, this is all I need: forward progress on my creative side. When I was doing PR1 and PR2 I felt damn good, shit job or no shit job, because at least my creative side was well exercised. That alone kept my spirits up. I hope that’s the case now.
