Not much to say, but I like to post every 1-2 days, so.
Josh’s projector broke again, dammit. But the good news is that the combined Jenny / Andy / Josh birthday party is still on — it’s being moved to my house instead. My sound system is inferior and my TV, while large, does not compare to the projector. But the nice thing is that this means I can stay for 1pm right on through to 3am since I’m not exactly driving anywhere, and by doing it on Saturday nobody has to leave early so they can wake up for work the next day. Bonus. There shall be chips and soda and projectile vomiting and really good movies.
Progress on PR5 continues. This is one mother of a module. I got most of the script-heavy puzzles out of the way, at least, but it’s by no means downhill from here. Wah. This thing is a ridiculous timesink — once it’s done I intend to spend a few days using my evenings for TV, RP, MAME, NWC, PS2, and XBox and other things that are spelled out in acronyms. (…including UE, yes, but let me at least take a brief break! I need to get back up to speed on the story, anyway.)
I saw a few new anime music videos last night, including one with (fansubbed, ick) .hack//DUSK footage. Intriguing anime. The art style is really, really sloppy but it seems to have something that .hack//SIGN didn’t have — LIFE. Action, things happening, people being passionate about things, etc. Not just standing around speculating. This will probably be coming out stateside given the whole bandai .hack USA push, so I may look into getting it whereas I’m just gonna get //SIGN on my Tivo via Cartoon Network.
I’m also looking forward to .hack v2 (the game). I hope they have some more character interaction outside of the emails. After the first batch of movie sequences you rarely talk to anyone anymore, even your friends who fight at your side. I mean, wha? I’d LOVE to ask Blackrose why she’s so keen on learning more about all this but naturally I’m unable to, since every time I pick her and select ‘Talk’ she does the same oneliner about wanting to trade items…
Hmm. I think I’ll show the first .hack OVA at the movie party. It’s short and if the crowd’s interested I’ll show the rest as they’re released. Anyway, back to work for me…
Update: Just got word that Elizabeth Smart has been found. You might remember the story about a girl being abducted right from her bedroom? They got her at a traffic stop off a tipoff. I don’t know this girl and I barely know anything about the case, but two thoughts hit me: A) Proof by example that good things are possible in this world even in the face of certain doom and despair, and B) I hate to think what happened during those nine months. Psychological trauma always holds a bizarre fascination with me, but make no mistake, I don’t APPROVE of it and I really hope she can recover from all this in some manner.
UpdateUpdate: Much to my surprise, it turns out that Josh is indirectly related to Elizabeth Smart — she’s his brother-in-law’s cousin. So there’s a real sigh of relief down the family tree after her rescue. We’re all connected, folks; feel free to feel better when things like this happen.
