They preempted Smackdown last night for war coverage. Not even any special or breaking war coverage which the public should know about, just the same old “Not much is happening yet, so let’s speculate” over and over.
I don’t see the point. Hello? People can get war coverage on, oh, EVERY OTHER CHANNEL. You’re not providing any amazing service by covering the war on the syndicated UPN network when there are 10-15 other options people can pick. Is it the ratings? Considering how thin the war is spread across the dial, do you honestly think you’ll get more ratings with war coverage than you would with alternative fare for people who are SICK of war coverage? ARGH.
…granted, Smackdown looked pretty boring and weak in the spoilers I read, but it’s the principle of the thing. Plus I had to stop the Tivo since it was merrily taping away a static picture of Baghdad as seen through a night vision filter.
In other news… I found some very nasty placeables for the hellscape in PR5. I wish I could say more, but it’d be a spoiler; it’s going to be a spoiler as is in the documentation since the NWN d20 Modern team has a stupid lisence that demands you include their documentation with yours no matter how little or lot of their material you use. *sigh*
In other NWN news, Josh has been nudging me to make another module with voice acting since he had lots of fun doing the last one. As much as I know people love my serious mod work in EE, I’m afraid that the next one’s gonna be a parody. I’ve been hinting at it in the journal, but here are more VERY TENATIVE details:
Bad kung fu movie parody, in terms of plot, characters, and above all voice acting. Josh, Andy and Jen and I can all do good imitations of annoying kung fu dubbing, and I figured out a way in scripting for an NWN monk to make ‘HOAH!’ and ‘HIYA!’ type Bruce Lee noises while fighting.
In terms of wacky script systems, I’m hoping to let you play any pure monk character you want of your own devising, but allowing the player to pick one or more plot gimmick hooks (avenging sensei’s death, yakuza thug, etc.) so they have tight integration with the storyline.
But that’s for the future. Distant future, since PR5 and UE come first. And for now… I wanna go home. Work sucks, it’s foggy and cold out, and my mood is foul. Tonight I’ll be doing Hodge Podge’s big finale, at least, which should be fun.
