At loopychew‘s suggestion, I downloaded some Azumanga Diaoh last night. Ahhh, that was fun. ^_^ Sort of like candy; it’s short and sweet and goes down easy. I now know what the perfect pick me up is when my mood’s down, just pop on an episode of that. Although the cat was very disturbing; I’ll have to show Jen that, given it looks a lot like her Evil Smiling Kitty monoprints.
In other media nes, I also watched “Revenge of the Ninja,” which my Tivo grabbed as part of my martial arts wishlist. I was expecting a crappy flick like American Ninja, but — DAYAMN, man! Fighting! Fighting! Fighting! Ninjas ninjaing around and flipping out and killing people! This movie epitomizes real ultimate power. The story is passably interesting, not too lousy not too good, and doesn’t distract at all from the constant stream of fight scenes.
And get this: The annoying little kid who gets in trouble? HE KICKS ASS. And he gets his ass kicked just as much. The hot blonde chick who runs around the whole movie naked or in her lingerie? SHE KICKS ASS. And I don’t mean ‘She’s hawt,’ I mean the ass, she is kicking it in a couple scenes in a very competent manner that did not rely on the editing deck to make it look good. Hell, the kid and the chick have a fight scene against each other that’s damn good!
I’m flagging this puppy as ‘Do not delete’ on the tivo and hanging onto it for the next movie party. It’s just the thing when you wanna get your ninja on.
Speaking of getting your ninja on, FOD WIP: Core systems really complete this time, including barrels of goodies. Treasure tables tweaked. First stage is complete including cut scenes! Hwei! I’m probably gonna pause here and work a bit more on PR5, since the rest of FoD is just implementation and balancing.
Oh, and just to kick up a shirtstorm of trouble: Am I the only person out there who felt that the action slaughterfest Beat-directed flick “Battle Royale” was a disturbing, gory, unpleasant little piece of heavy handed nastiness which doesn’t deserve the heaping praise as an evolution in cinematic art that everybody claims it was? I mean, I’m tolerant of some very disturbing shirt, believe me. VERY gory and psychologically forked. But 13 year old kids tearing out each others entrails for our entertainment was where the line got drawn for me, and even armed with four years of film analysis classes I couldn’t find anything particularly meaningful in the themes explored beyond some very basic, done to death sociology catchphrases.
…now I’m gonna get flamed. Never disagree with a fanboy, for that way lies madness.
