I got a $100 Best Buy gift card yesterday from my boss. Apparently the ODE people loved the work I did on their insane rush-job online survey I talked about a few posts ago, and felt I deserved a bonus. Sweet!
Now I’m going to do something incredibly stupid and purchase X-Box Live and Phantasy Star Online with it. Because, you know, I’d rather have a game I already played on the Dreamcast than money. Although admittedly I did enjoy the heck out of PSO and the idea of PSO + Voice Chat + Extra Content I Didn’t Have On The DC is good. And then I can get Capcom vs. SNK 2 and get my ass handed to me over and over via online fighting, w00t.
If Sony would pull their heads out of their asses and provide more A-list titles like that, I’d be buying THEIR online games more. As is the only games I have which I can play online are Tony Hawk 4 (boring and immature) and Amplitude. No fighting games, no RPGs, no nothing.
In other news, we are now playing the Waiting Game for nwvault.ign.com to update with the PR5 beta. Thankfully during the wait I pegged two showstopper bugs thanks to rubylight‘s hard work with a pre-release copy. So, it should mean less frustration with testers, which is always good. Helps me focus more on combat balance and polish than on critical errors. But… all this waits, as noted, until the vault updates. Tick tock, tick tock.
In other other news, I got into the database-enabled beta test of the next NWN version! Which means Fist of Discomfort will have REAL UNLOCKABLES, not ‘password unlockables’. It’ll track your fighting statistics persistently, store them in the database, use them to calculate what you’ve unlocked, etc. Very nice. FoD is one of the only single-player mods using this system; most people are using it to do persistent worlds. If only I had this to track love tokens and stuff in PR!
Oh well, on the way to Best Buy to prove that I am a moron. Why do I have to feel so guilty for spending money, anyway? Who cares if it has a monthly fee? I’m doing okay financially, I can afford a luxury if it makes me happy and stress free…
