That’s how long my morning commute of 4 miles took. The connecting highway to my office was backed up bumper to bumper the entire length and moved at a snail’s pace. And why…?
Because ONE CAR broke down in the righthand lane.
This is what happens when you make a two lane highway and then connect ninety thousand commercial centers and office buildings and suburban communities to it. Overload. And if one lousy freaking broken down car can annihilate all possibility of getting down that road faster than a snail, then you know you screwed up.
I mailed my dad to ask what happened, since by the time I got there the car was gone. He pointed out something interesting — this was one car. What would happen if we had a legitimate disaster in this area? A dirty bomb in Washington, an earthquake, anything. If traffic is disrupted this easily then in the event of a REAL emergency we are completely boned — none of the roads around here are properly designed for high capacity. Even emergency vehicles have a hard time navigating them.
Well, in more cheerful news… I’m ready to announce my next NWN module, and it’s one a lot of you have been waiting for. Now that SoU is here (and I have my preview build) I’m ready to do the sequel to Elegia Eternum. The title is Abstraction Eternum, and it probably won’t be a direct sequel, more a module in the same vein of surrealistic horror. sweeney is working with me on the plot and thematic elements now, and once the extensive planning is done, I’ll start constructing. Of course, no ETA, since I have this alongside other projects and I am not going to break my back over it. Gotta take it smooth ‘n easy…
