Hot, hot, hot. It’s pretty hot down here. It could be far worse, granted; it’s hovering in the mid 80’s and sunny, rather than the sweltering 90’s, but it’s enough to make you want to minimize your time outside and wrap a road trip with a dip in the pool.
Yesterday we went in search of an arcade. I opted for Corolla Speedway, which we called and they claimed to have go-karts, bumper cars, an arcade and rides! Whee! And when we got there we found a little wooden hut the size of a postage stamp with one pinball machine, one driving game, one shooting game, one Ms. PacMan and that was it. The go-kart track you could fit in my backyard. Pathetic.
Instead, we went to a seashell shop that we recognized from our 15 years ago trip — one that fascinated Jen so much that she went for a marine biology degree in college. It was pretty cool to revisit the place. I found a neat little pastel color seaside mural thingy that I’ll have to snap a photo of for you later… it was the last one they had, so I bought the floor model. Next we hit a new & used bookstore which smelled of old books and dust, fascinating place indeed… I picked up a novelization of the Dungeons & Dragons movie for kicks.
We played some board games that night including Kill Doctor Lucky and Therapy, were gonna watch Kung Pow (SOMEHOW we got the other family interested; apparently they let their oldest watch the movie once, so it’s okay with them) but ran out of time. I fell asleep with the lights on in my room, which meant waking up constantly during the night (ugh) because I was too tired and lazy to get out of my oversized bed, turn ’em off, then try to climb back in.
Because today’s almost over, I’ll do a brief recap here — hit a really good aquarium, even better than the Baltimore one since it was compact but very well kept. Jen was impressed, all the fish looked healthy and the tanks were clean as a whistle. I bought CDs of relaxing music both new-age and japanese in style, then we came home for a dip in the pool to negate the heat exhaustion. Now? Now, I’m just chillin’. Ahhhh.
