Double-post. Can’t help it.
So I go home early and telecommute, since I’m still coughing up a storm. Skipped lunch. Didn’t have much appetite. Time ticks. 6:30. Still not that hungry but I figure I should eat something… but I’m not keen on cooking dinner. Options? Could drive to McDonald’s. Keep in mind: I rarely ever actually drive anywhere unless I was planning to go there at least 24 hours in advance, and once I park the car in the garage after coming home from work that’s IT.
This time something in me said ‘Go do it’ and said ‘Maybe you can rent some games for the party, and there’s a slim chance you can buy those extra X-box controllers at Radio Shack or something’ since there isn’t a game store for miles. I pile into my car and drive to Hollywood Video to rent the games…
HAPPY COINCIDENCE #1: One month ago, Hollywood opened a game store INSIDE Hollywood Video called Game Crazy. New games, lots of good used games, tradeins, controllers, and more. Standard retail price. I never have to drive out to the mall again, a trecharous 20 minute drive through insane intersections and highways and traffic. Now I can pop down there in five minutes.
HAPPY COINCIDENCE #2: Who should bump into me at Hollywood but Nick Steele, an old high school buddy of mine! You may remember him as the guy who says ‘TOASTY!’ in Pong Kombat. We swapped phone numbers and e-mail addresses.
HAPPY COINCIDENCE #3: Piling into the car victorious with controllers and rentals and food, my MP3 player in the car picks ‘2 Minutes to Midnight’ and ‘Rock You Like a Hurricane’ for my drive home. Ahhhh, good stuff.
HAPPY COINCIDENCE #4: I arrive just as Andy and Jen are settled in and they pitch going to T3 tonight. We have 9:30 tickets. Afterward they’ll help me do the last bits of tidying up down here I need to get the game party rolling, and tomorrow we finish the cab.
This day couldn’t go any better.
