Ahh… the comic book spaceship from Anachronox. Home of some of the coolest ‘living comic’ cinematography this side of the new Hulk flick.
Allow me to wax nostalgic for a bit. Anachronox was a console-style RPG, specifically inspired by Chrono Trigger, but created in America for a western audience. It’s a sci-fi dramedy, very UE in nature, and a whole lot of fun. It also was a collosal flop and that plus Daikatana sunk Ion Storm forever.
Why didn’t this game get the props it deserved? I’ll grant that the first third of the game was a bit plodding since you had to march all over Anachronox itself on foot a few dozen times, but that was the only flaw. Japanese CRPG style combat with great elemental systems, hillarious dialogue, really inventive sci-fi worlds, a fun camera system for the many cut-scenes, a story which while unfinished (they had a sequel planned) is still quite satisfying… what more could ya ask for?
Well, the game is now ten bucks on eBay, so if anybody’s bored, I highly recommend. They’ve also made a 2.5 hour movie out of the cutscenes from the game (machinima!) which I’m in the process of downloading right now. It’s a little hard to follow if you never played the game since it’s only cut-scenes, but it brings a tear to my eye, it does.
Okay, enough waxing nostalgic. UE12 was updated yesterday; see prior news post. I’m gonna outline UE12 pt 3 today… doubt I’ll get much work done on it in the short term, though, since I have an NWN game lined up tonight and some RP with a friend on Saturday.
