I haven’t played Portal 2 yet (yeah, I know) but I checked out the song on YouTube and it’s really good. Thanks for letting me know about it.
kamalloy says
On a musical topic, I’ve found that “England” by The National makes me think of Chloe and London’s Fog, albeit in a somewhat ironic way. (Famous angels did, in fact, come through England.)
Stefan "Twoflower" Gagne says
I’ll have to give it a listen. My only exposure to The National is the song they contributed to Portal 2, but I LOVE that song.
Lirazel says
So, the Cairo piece sound more to me like something to do with the Russians. (I know, Egypt is in North Africa, but all that shouting…)
And “satisfaction in the faintly flickering circle” is making me think of Anu and the “broken” circuit through the mirror-world. As is our last musical selection, obviously. She might even see the division of the crowns as poetic justice?
Jen Gagne, Psycho Happy artist says
Hmm, I don’t think Anu has any issue with the crowns or Emily considering she’s focused all her rage on Lar. So… moon refs definitely must relate to her, you’re right.
Carlo says
Neat!
Just one thing you should be aware of, it’s “Sao Paulo”. Don’t want to make those Brazilian fans mad.
Stefan "Twoflower" Gagne says
Huh. I thought I got that right — I did research to find the area I wanted for sf02, juxtaposed against a noteable cathedral with a large open space, and figured out the HTML code for the accent.
Fortunately, it’s a simple matter to do a sweeping search and replace on all instances of it. I’ll have it fixed with my next update.
LoopyChew says
The accent is right, just the “Paulo” bit.
Learn something new every day.
kamalloy says
Oh man, this is so exciting. What an awesome way to build up anticipation for the last parts of the series!
Stefan "Twoflower" Gagne says
Realized last night that dumping the entire pile of scenes in one blow would be a lousy approach — no fun at all for the reader, and difficult for the writer since the big “So! it’s over! What’d you think?” thread would be cluttered with “You spelled that wrong 27 scenes back”. This is way better all around.
Jen, Psycho Happy artist says
*headdesk* I was so focused on the links embedded in the dates, I totally missed that that is essentially the release schedule for each chunk of the story. XD
LoopyChew says
Also interesting to note: What we originally perceived to be the Second Age, being the events from Emily’s inheritance of the crowns, is not in fact the Second Age, at least according to the House of Gears–they’re saying that the Second Age starts when the stars fall.
Jen, Psycho Happy artist says
Well, unless these are just some of the later files in a series, I suppose.
But yeah, perhaps you can argue [REDACTED] bonus story [REDACTED] really the [REDACTED].
We should go back and look at the second age prophecy and see how it fits.
Who’s LOTF? Lar ___?
kamalloy says
From the [REDACTED] bonus story: [REDACTED].
:P
Jen, Psycho Happy artist says
To unredact a bit…
“The Second Age calls for a time of upheaval, when all the old conventions shuffle around, and enemies become allies… but in the end, it’s what has to be, and it’s the only way towards a better tomorrow.”
You could argue that happened when the Faerie Queens crowned Emily and the Fae and humans made up.
But as we now know, there are even bigger shake-ups happening. First we have all the current citizens of this Earth essentially aligning with the crashed Orbitals, who were arguably their enemy before.
Now they’re up against the Ascendancy as an enemy — but Emily has already said “our enemy is not the Ascendancy in general.” Maybe it’s a stretch, but perhaps in the long-term they will become allies somehow, too?
kamalloy says
Actually, my [REDACTED] was about LOTF. This is what I get for thinking I’m being clever! ;)
LoopyChew says
…CRAP. I didn’t even THINK about that until now. That makes perfect sense, though!
Stefan "Twoflower" Gagne says
There’s also a reference to it at the very end of Forsaken Shores. Granted without the dashes between all four words, but it’s not retail only, at least!
Jen, Psycho Happy artist says
But… uh… she got eaten by Shub-Niggurath, so it’s curious that anybody ELSE would be using those initials. Hmmm!
More reasons to buy the book versions with bonus stories explaining all this, no doubt. :D
Jen, Psycho Happy artist says
Ooh, what a cool teaser. Great idea Stef! I’ll transcribe titles to here to kick it off…
8AM Cairo — Shout, Tears for Fears (mutants?)
3AM Atlantis — Cities In Dust, Siouxsie & The Banshees (Interesting, isn’t Atlantis already gone? They must have an arcology parked there still?)
4AM São Paolo — Cars, Fear Factory (zombies… uh… the Buick?)
1AM Atlanta — Holding Out for a Hero, Bonnie Tyler (GO CARRIE! :D)
6AM London — The Return of the King soundtrack (Edward!)
12AM New Orleans — The Trees, Rush (Susie going super saiyan? Emily helping, maybe?)
12:01AM–ERROR FILE C11!@#!$%UPTION — (eek?!?)
PROCESSING… FILE RESTORATION RELEASE 12AM DEC 25 2011 — Your Precious Moon (uhhhmmm…O_O)
How many Arcologies are there, does anybody remember? Does this cover all of them? Any ideas, theories?
LoopyChew says
It’s been established that there is still an Arcology over Atlantis.
So it’s all written, and being released piecemeal? Looking forward!
Micheal says

Remember Anu?
