Hey, all. I’ve made some changes to Floating Point 1.1 which you should be aware of; this sets up things for later on, notably in the second book of the trilogy. Normally I hate ‘retconning’ things like this in place, particularly after finalizing a draft chapter, but it’s critically important despite looking completely trivial. Thanks for bearing with me.
IN SHORT: The Church of One has a new attribute. They see grinding for cryptocurrency, the trance-like state which produces money from nothing in this world by loaning your runtime to unknown mathematical procedures, as a holy act of prayer. Special prayer shrines are in each temple for this purpose, and the Church skims a tithe off the top while letting the faithful keep the rest.
Three references were added into 1.1 to point this out:
- The scene-setting in HolyHymnal mentions the prayer shrine and its purpose. Spark is okay with the idea since at least you get money out of it.
- Spark also notes that the revenue generated from prayer also goes back into the community, and that’s a good thing. (She commented on charity efforts before, that’s not new, just saying what sources them.)
- Tracer, while wondering why Arjay is mining for coins, points out that he’s not religious. That’s all.
While the Church is in the background of most of the first book I’m planning to use it more in the second, so I had to set these changes up now. I don’t think any further changes are needed to later chapters, but if so, I’ll let you know.
