In high school, I made a simple puzzle-platformer-action game called “Inertia” about a little car with jump jets installed in it which acted as a perpetual motion machine. You couldn’t slow down, speed up, or stop… only change directions and soar skyward. It kept moving, and it was up to you to keep up with that movement. In hindsight I think I saw it as an ideal. Ceaseless and predictable, unstoppable but not chaotic. A thrill ride under your control.
But life is rarely under our control, and as thrill rides go, it tends to have doldrum downs and insane ups. Recently life’s thrown a lot of all of that and more at me.
My father’s passed on, and so it goes. My life continues. And it’s time to take my writing off pause and give it some inertia… even if I know I can’t meet the ideal of ceaseless movement.
Floating Point 2.3 launches today. I have less of a “writing buffer” than I had before, only 1.5 weeks of content ready in advance, so I can’t promise I’ll be able to stick to one-a-week forever and ever. But at this point, some is better than none, and moving slowly is better than standing still.
Your support means a lot to me. Thank you. Looking forward to finishing this trilogy, as much as you’re hopefully looking forward to reading it.
Floating Point 2.3 launches on August 21st. Patreon backers already have a peek, of course.
I can’t promise a week to week regular schedule, life is still very crazy, but I think I have enough material now to get this chapter going. See you in a week!
Hi there. It’s kinda been some time, hasn’t it.
I’m trying to make an effort to get my life situation back on track. My father’s still dying (no nicer way to put it) but because the universe apparently doesn’t believe in punctuality, putting life on hold to wait for it isn’t proving a fruitful endeavor. That means restarting various things I’d put on hiatus. Including Floating Point.
Here’s what’s coming up:
Welcome to Floating Point, the print novel and eBook with a bonus prequel chapter and extensive author’s notes, will be releasing at the end of the month / start of September. This has been delayed quite a bit by aforementioned life screwiness and the extensively crazy formatting the book needs compared to, say, anachronauts. So, be on the lookout for that. In the meantime, why not check out some of my other books?
Floating Point 2.3 will be launching soon; I have about a week and a half of material for it, and once I feel I have a comfortable buffer, I’ll get on it. Patreon backers will get early access, as always.
Thanks for your patience; if you’re reading these words it means you stuck it out through the dry spell, and for that accomplishment you deserve a pat on the back. Hold fast. We’ll be back soon.
