Docks

Buildings that use engines to move from world to world are neat and all, but those buildings need a place to exist just like everything else. Moving your house, shack, or personal transport hut from Nippon to Urbana on your daily commute means finding a parking spot. Once you've cleared your arrival via the various passport processing procedures, it's time to land that puppy. That's what docks are for.

Docks are giant parking lots specifically geared to transients who bring their real estate with them across the muliverse. They handle the allocation of space to accomodate large and small units, they sometimes will provide you gas and water and sewage hookups, and they make a lot of money from the rental fees.

A good transient knows where the best docks are. Some charge more, some charge less, some have discounts for smaller houses and so on. Most of the docks on Urbana, for example, are geared to parking the huts of business commuters and charge ridiculous prices for full sized houses... but Crazy Al's Southside Lot will take on houses for up to two days before his prices get steep.
