Grünwald

Grünwald is a very special purpose world, devoted to the arts of both agriculture (getting ingredients out of the ground) and cooking (turning ingredients into food).

The whole society of Grünwald is based on this. Families raise their children with training in the fields and in specialty schools so they can learn to be master chefs. Men and women are treated equally in this respect; women plow the fields just as often as men prepare the meals.

The landscape of Grünwald is quite a sight to behold. Nature thrives here, with no air pollution to speak of due to the lack of advanced technology beyond kitchen-based technology. Great fields of green grass, hills aplenty, orchards filled with trees and crops as far as the eye can see... and a brilliantly pastel swirling green sky to go along with the green ground beneath it.

Atop the tallest hill in Grünwald (which lacks mountains) is the windmill. A constant jet stream in the atmosphere keeps the windmill blades turning at a predictable rate, which in turn powers the Reality Engine kept in its basement. The engine takes most of the power to operate and tends to break down a lot, but the rest of the power is funneled to the kitchens of the village to power electric stoves, microwaves, and pressure cookers.

The Village Council runs Grünwald with tight controls. Generally, outsiders are not wanted there; the small dock in the northern part of the village is primarily used by a small number of regulars who visit to buy the crops and prepared foods of Grünwald. Anybody else is given the cold shoulder in the politest way possible.

Since the lure of leaving Grünwald is pretty strong in its youth (who eventually tire of plowing and cooking and reading and sowing and such) use of RealNet appliances is looked down upon. Not BANNED exactly, but in a small community, there are plenty of unofficial and social ways to punish people.
