Look at that, I finished writing chapter //017. Go figure. This one flowed quite well once I’d sorted out its issues in advance — and in the process I figured out where I’m going with the rest of this book, too. We’re on a roll, peoples.
To celebrate, I’m going to experiment with something… writing for an audience. As in, a LIVE studio audience.
Saturday February 22nd at 8:30pm Eastern, I’ll be livestreaming the writing of chapter //018.001. Follow me on Twitch.TV and tune in! If this is successful, if I get a couple people watching and chatting and enjoying it, I may do it again. Be nice to put this useless webcam to good use, at any rate.
(EDIT: It’s over! And… it was semi-disastrous as nobody actually watched. If you wanna see a replay, it’s over here. Probably won’t be trying that again, at least not without LOTS of forewarning and a better timeslot.)
“Wait,” you may say. “What do you mean, //018.001? That’s a weird chapter designation and WHOA did you just update the future chapter titles on the homepage when I wasn’t looking?”
“SOON,” I will reply. Likely with an image macro of a horse staring out a window.
More details to come during the livestream.

Man, that’s like 2:30 in the morning here. It’d wreak some hell on my Sunday, I think.

Also, I bet me livestreaming typo corrections to you would drive you nuts.

Sadly if I do a repeat performance it’s going to also need to be at night, due to the dayjob. I might do a midday one on a Sunday though, if this really takes off.

If I had checked your blog several hours ago, I would have watched. ;(
Stefan "Twoflower" Gagne says
Yeah. If I do this again I’m going to give several days of forewarning, I think. I’ll probably have to do it on a Thursday night — the way my life works that’d be best for having maximum time to write in an evening. Cutting it a bit close to publication date, but.

Darnit, and I’m going to be out, then. I remember bits and pieces of the first time you did it, and I remember the chatter being fun to listen to.
Stefan "Twoflower" Gagne says
If this is a success, I’ll no doubt be doing it again in the future! Maybe on a weekday, too. Whatever works best for folks.

And I will be at the Boston Symphony performance of Beethoven’s Eroica symphony — my combined Christmas/birthday present. We’re also going out to dinner and staying at a fawncy hotel.
And then the following night, I’m grandbaby sitting and dining on chikin nuggets, most likely. Contrast!
Have fun with the livestream, and remember that catch-and-release is all the rage now.

Exciting! So how will you handle having a Live Studio Audience(tm)?
It’ll probably be best for your concentration if you ignore visitor comments.. but it’s more fun if we can jabber at you. Decisions, decisions!
Stefan "Twoflower" Gagne says
I’ve actually done a livestream before — not with this level of tech or organization, but same idea. It’s not that hard to read and reply to chat while writing.
I’m just hoping someone will show up. I told my friends about the event and got a “Meh, sounds boring” reaction. I shall endeavor not to make it boring.
