This week we start a new journey, deep within the twisted and hateful goblin warrens known as the Suburbs. It’s time for //019: Final Cut, which stars Milly and Lucas and borrows heavily from found footage horror movies because hey, it’s a neat thing to do in prose.
In case you missed it, the vol//002 book was released to the store last week. “Hang on, the stories are free; why should I buy this?” Because it contains two lengthy short stories which delve deeper into the City that are only available in the book, that’s why. Also it has author’s notes and artist’s sketches, great bonus material. Finally, buying it directly supports me in my efforts, and would be much appreciated.
Speaking of self-promotion, let’s talk self-promotion. I need to be doing more of it.
I need to network. I need to shake hands. I need to dive into the world of online authorship. And I need to encourage more True Fans(tm) to go forth and issue ficrecs. Because… it works. I’ve literally doubled my readership thanks to ficrecs folks have been making on Reddit and beyond. The more of that we get, the more of that we get; it’s a snowball effect.
The last time I went looking for information on how other web serials handle things, all I found were some dusty forums where authors begged other authors to read their stuff. But clearly, the situation has changed. There IS an audience for serials out there… I know you’re out there. I will find you. And I will hug you.
So, while I’m doing that, what can you do? It’s simple. Ficrecs. Talk ’em up. I’ve said it before, but it bears repeating; if you’re reading these words right now, you are down the rabbit hole and fully qualified to issue these proclamations. Warm up your megaphone, and make a difference. Remain strong.
