I’m working on the outline for Floating Point 3.5, and realized I need to retcon something. It helps events that came before and events yet to come make more sense.
Previously, in chapter 3.1, Kincaid states it takes about one month for a new server to arrive after it’s requested by a system agent. I’ve decided to increase that to five or six months. Kincaid also goes on to explain why they were sitting on so many empty servers — the long delay between request and the arrival means they want to bank a bunch of empty servers ahead of time, to keep supply in line with demand. Athena Online and the Chanarchy do similarly.
I’ll admit I’m playing things a bit loose with time, despite a ticking clock, in order to keep things flexible. But this change allows for the relationship between travel time and processor clock speed to make a bit more sense.
