The Fringe

I always wanted to draw up a map of the Fringe, but given it can change on a nearly day to day basis, maps would be useless. My crazy Internet-loving elven friend has said he's going to try an online map "hack" of some kind to embed one on his website, but we'll see if anything comes of that.

EDITOR'S NOTE: Working on it, lady! Sheesh!

The Fringe is a blanket name given to villages, townships, settlements, or even solitary farms that exist between the established territory of the Faerie Court and Eastusa. (I suppose there could be a fringe between the Court and Westusa, too, but I wouldn't know.) The forests and plains mixed throughout the Fringe are wildlands, unclaimed territory that house stray Fae and human brigands and the like. Needless to say, the Fringe can be a rough place.

The settlements vary so much that there's no damn sense listing them here. I've found villages that are friendly to witches... which were gone when I visited months later. Not even ruins, simply gone, and I'd rather not learn what could've done that. I've also had to endure townships with Eastusa sponsorship, which means that spellcasting and even traditional dress of witches are a no-no. And then you have the cult ranches. And the crazies. And the extremely dangerous to themselves and others idealistic innovators. And... well. You get the idea. It's a hodge podge.

Still, most of my days are spent wandering the Fringe. As a witch, it's about the only place you'll find hospitality. Strongly Fae controlled lands don't take well to humans, and Eastusa controlled lands don't take well to witches. For lack of a better option, your pointy hat is going to be moving up and down the Fringe.

EDITOR'S NOTE: Fae settlements in the Fringe are less common than human ones, but they do exist. I've lived in two, before they were broken up and driven back into the forests by humans.

(But I don't hold that against you peeps. Everybody needs a place to be. I just wish you didn't want MY place to be quite so often.)
