RealWare

RealWare is the corporation housed on Reality Prime and run by Gillian Bates which controls Reality Engine technology and RealNet technology.

They have no true governmental control in other realities across the multiverse, but have a definite grip on their money, which amounts to the same thing in the end. The only military force they have is designed to defend Reality Prime against attack -- but a multiversal investigation group known as the RealWare IP Police seeks out intellectual property crimes and make arrests... which are then prosecuted by local courts, using laws that RealWare likely helped draft into their lawbooks in exchange for discounts on engine fees.

RealWare will often offer exchanges of money for control. For instance, you can get a large discount on RealWare services by enrolling in the Preferred Partners Program. PPP realities in turn give young children to RealWare, to be raised and trained in RealWare schools, and given menial jobs on Reality Prime. It's more or less indentured service, but the PR department spins it as "valuable career training which enriches the PPP's workforce" once they decide to give back the "trainees."

In recent times, the Open Reality Movement has arisen to try and counter this situation, to provide a sense of freedom in a multiverse of control. For instance, the IP Police hold no sway in Open Reality worlds, and are decidedly unwelcome in them.

It could be said that past corporate regimes in control of RealWare had a tint of evil to them -- unpleasant things have been said of Gillian's father, for instance. But on the whole, RealWare is not evil, and Gillian doesn't seem to rule with a selfish hand. RealWare doesn't kick small dogs or run down grandmothers in semi trucks... but they're not particularly GOOD, either. They are what they are -- a rock of ages, mantaining a position of power by any means not out of greed or lust or gluttony or wrath or pride or envy... but simply because it's what they've always done. If they're guilty of anything, it's paranoia, and with the ORM allegedly battering at their door, they see it as entirely justified.

protections
You cannot destroy, de-monopolize, bankrupt, or otherwise change RealWare's direction without Stefan Gagne's permission. Depicting lower level or local flunkies in the corporate ladder who can't disturb the upper ranks is fine. Depicting a crack team of secret RealWare ninja who kill at Gillian's command is not fine. RealWare makes no blatantly, overtly evil moves; they're more businesslike than warlike.
